Pixies returns to Mexico City to become part of the Corona Capital Music Festival. While many claim that their return to the festival is too early, others believe that it is always good to news to see them live. Another reason to cath their show? "Paz Lenchatain has been able to keep up with the spot. We were looking for a woman because the band requires reaching certain tones that only a woman can, because a man does not reach them unless you hit him in the balls. We did several tests and Paz was the best, her musicality is incredible. She is like Brian Jones: she plays the piano, she plays everything, and gives the band a lightness that we had never had. This is a good thing especially because we sometimes live together 24/7. Her positive personality makes us enjoy the process much more than we enjoyed the last 11 years, "said Joey Santiago.
Joey´s statements make it clear that his relationship with Deal is not very close, in fact he believes she has not heard the new album of the band, however the process and recording has not changed.
"It's a challenge to make new songs, it's as difficult as the first album, the pressure is the same, once we get into the studio, I'm stressed, because I have to do something fucking original, it's hard because we always want to do something that we like. Since we started the band, seeing the audience's response was incredible. We now have fans younger than us, almost children. We try to make them feel good and keep our spirits young . A way to do it is to record in exotic places, to challenge ourselves. To take advantage of the fact that we are better musicians than when we started out. For example, the last album came out after many years, we wanted it to be worth it.That's why we emphasized having good guitar sounds".
Evidently guitars have special importance for Santaigo who plays this instrument in Pixies. According to him, of the current bands he likes Ratatat because he considers that they continuously explore a different style. He also appreciates the work of Tom Morello from Rage Agaisnt the Machine. However, who most influenced him recently is Robert Plant, with whom he had the opportunity to go on tour.
"It was amazing to play with him. He has a great band and looks for a different approach to Led Zeppellin's songs. He is like a child and knows all the bands from today. He's truly a rock n 'roll fan", Joey concluded.
